STORYLINE:
Armenia marked Republic Day with a military parade in the capital Yerevan on Thursday, the country’s first such parade since 2016.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the parade symbolized a “new historical era” for Armenia, marked with peace with neighboring Azerbaijan.
Members of the Armenian armed forces marched through the capital’s central square, while military equipment including some domestically produced systems were displayed during the parade.
The national holiday commemorates the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia in 1918, which was later annexed by the Red Army in 1921.
